What does The World card look like?
A dancer moves within a laurel wreath, holding two wands. In the four corners are a lion, an eagle, a bull and a human figure. A dancer floats inside a laurel wreath, holding two wands. The four creatures from the Wheel appear in the corners.
The World closes the Major Arcana with a dancer floating inside a large oval wreath of green leaves. The wreath is tied at top and bottom with red ribbons shaped like the infinity sign that floats above the Magician's head, so the first lesson of willpower meets the final lesson of wholeness. The dancer holds a wand in each hand, one for giving and one for receiving, and a violet sash wraps around the body without hiding it. One leg crosses behind the other in the same position as the Hanged Man, but upright now: what was once suspension has become movement. In the four corners sit an angel, an eagle, a lion and a bull. These are the fixed signs of Aquarius, Scorpio, Leo and Taurus, also seen on the Wheel of Fortune. On the Wheel they are reading books, still learning. Here they have finished their study and simply watch.
What number is The World and where does it sit in the Fool's Journey?
The World is number twenty-one, the highest number in the Major Arcana, which reduces to three and links it with the Empress: creation brought to completion. In many older decks the figure in the wreath is shown as a woman, and the four creatures in the corners are drawn from the vision of Ezekiel and the four Evangelists in Christian art. Waite described the card as the perfection and end of the cosmos, while also hinting that the Fool steps through the wreath to begin again.

When the energy is turned inward
The card points to completion you have reached but not accepted. You may have done the work and still feel unfinished. The invitation is to tell yourself, clearly, that it is done.
