Three-card tarot spread
If you are new to tarot, this is where we suggest you start. The three-card spread is the simplest full reading: three cards in a row, each with one job. It is quick enough for a busy evening and still gives you a real story to think about.
Positions
- Past: what led to this moment.
- Present: where things stand now.
- Future: a possible direction if things continue as they are.
Try it live with the card generator set to three cards.
Other ways to frame three cards
- Situation, challenge, advice
- Mind, body, spirit
- You, the other person, the connection
- What to keep, what to release, what to welcome
- Option A, option B, what to consider
How to read it
Read each card in its position. Then read the three as a sentence: "Because of the first, I am in the second, which could lead to the third." Look for a shared suit or element.
Example
Question: "What do I need to know about my week?" Cards: Four of Swords, Eight of Pentacles, Six of Wands. Reading: after a period of rest, steady practice now pays off, and recognition may follow. The advice is to keep working at your pace.
FAQ
Is the future card fixed? No. It shows a possible direction based on now. You can change course.
Can I use reversed cards? Yes, if you like. Read reversals as blocked or inward energy.
